How to Apply

We accept applications only through the Electronic Residency Application System . You must also be enrolled with the National Resident Matching Program . Your ERAS application will be complete when we have received your summary, personal statement, transcripts, USMLE or Comlex Part I results, three letters of recommendation (at least one from a family physician) and your Dean's Letter. We also require a photograph (this can only be viewed by residency programs after they indicate that they are inviting an applicant to interview). It is also necessary to note that, in order to be eligible to begin your residency, you must have taken and passed the USMLE or Comlex Part II.

Your dean's office will have information for you on how to apply through ERAS. We suggest getting your applications out early as interview appointments are usually full (in many programs) by the first of December.

Interviews are by invitation, and include the opportunity to sit in on morning report and noon conference, as well as private interviews with a resident and at least two faculty members. Our behavioral science director, Dr. Stewart, spends time with the applicants to go over the behavioral science curriculum, and our administrative staff discuss salary and benefits, as well as provide information for a self-guided tour of Long Beach.

Please call our Residency Coordinator, Cynthia Neal, at 562-933-0063, or e-mail her at cneal@memorialcare.org , if you have any questions. She can also answer questions about clerkships.
