I have been in various academic and practice settings since my geriatrics fellowship. Most recently, I left private practice in 2004 to take the position of Director of Public Health for Monroe County, Florida. I have been involved in many community activities, including the Monroe County Task Force on Health Insurance and outreach programs on obesity/prevention/wellness. I am also a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Miami, and precept third-year medical students.
After these many years, I can only thank God for the great education I had. Memorial truly prepared me for the real world. Very frequently I find myself fondly reflecting on wisdom learned from (Program Directors) Dr. Nixon and Dr. Beebe, especially when teaching. I'll tell students, "once upon a time, before there was ______, a real family doc taught me this..."
